What Are Medicare Plans And Why Do You Need Them?

If you're a senior citizen in Banning, chances are you're on Medicare. Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 and over, as well as for some younger people with disabilities.

While Medicare does cover some of your medical expenses, it doesn't cover everything. That's where Medicare Plans and Medicare Supplement plans come in.

Medicare supplement plans are designed to fill in the gaps in Medicare coverage. They can help cover things like co-payments, deductibles, and co-insurance. Supplement plans are offered by private insurance companies, and you can choose the plan that's right for you.

Litchfield Insurance Associates, being a Medicare insurance agency, offers a variety of Medicare Plans and Medicare Supplement plans, as well as other types of health insurance. We can help you find the right plan for your needs and budget. Give us a call today to learn more about our Medicare plans in Banning. We're here to help!

    What is Medicare Part A?

Part A is hospital insurance that most people get automatically when they turn 65. If you have worked for at least ten years and paid Medicare taxes, you usually won't have to pay a monthly premium for Part A (sometimes called "premium-free Part A"). If you or your spouse didn't pay Medicare taxes while working, you may have to pay a monthly premium for Part A. Part A covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.

    What is Medicare Part B?

Part B is medical insurance that most people need to sign up for. You usually pay a monthly premium for Part B.

Part B covers outpatient medical care, preventive services, durable medical equipment, and some home health care.

    What is Medicare Part C?

Part C is a type of Medicare Advantage Plan. If you have Part C, you usually get all your Part A and Part B coverage through the plan. The plan may also offer extra coverage, such as vision, hearing, dental, and/or health and wellness programs. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include prescription drug coverage (Part D)

There is usually no premium for Part C. You may have to pay co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles.

    What is Medicare Part D?

Part D is prescription drug coverage. You can get this coverage through a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan or through a Medicare Advantage Plan that includes prescription drug coverage.

You usually pay a monthly premium for Part D. You may also have to pay copayments or coinsurance for your prescriptions.

How To Know If You're Eligible For Medicare Coverage?

You're eligible for Medicare coverage if you're 65 or older, or if you're under 65 and have a disability. If you're not sure if you qualify for Medicare, you can contact the Social Security Administration to find out.

If you qualify for Medicare, you'll need to sign up for Part A and/or Part B. You can do this online, by calling Social Security, or in person at your local Social Security office. We can also assist you.

If you're already receiving benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board, you'll be automatically enrolled in Part A and Part B. You'll get your Medicare card in the mail about three months before your 65th birthday.

If you're not receiving benefits from Social Security, you'll need to sign up for Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period. This is the seven-month period that begins three months before you turn 65.

You can wait until you retire to do so. But, if you're not working or your employer doesn't offer insurance, then Medicare is something you need to sign up for when you turn 65.

    Medicare Prescription Drug Plans
